It was to be another good race with around 50 drivers signed up for the 1:8 offroad 4wd class. My Xray XB8-TQ powered with Novarossi Plus 21-05 engine was well prepared for the race and some new features and setup things were about to be tested in real racing, but the wetter decided to change the plans.

In the morning the rain came and it just kept being there. The organizers decided to go and cut down the qualification rounds to 2 and make sub finals short and the main only 30 minutes. In one part of the track, under the bridge, the water was so high, that the only way to pass was with a boat. Everybody agreed that a small change on the track could still give a good lay out and then prevent us from going through that session. It worked perfect and with lap times around 32 seconds.

We all decided to skip practice, and in my first round of qualification the track was wet but not muddy, and I could easily make the best time of the day and also with the fastest lap time. One heat was enough and I waited for the semi. I took the lead and everything was as planned, but then I had some engine stops.

A lot of the other drivers did also have engine problems, and therefore I could go through to the final. The conditions was at this time so bad, that even though all drivers had made a lot of special things to prevent the cars from being totally muddy, it was not enough.

At this time there was no turning back, and for the final there were two Xray cars, my younger brother Janus Harder and me. In the beginning of the final it was Janus who was battling for the lead, but then his engine stopped. After about 5 minutes I took the lead and build a nice gap. But then it was time for my engine to give up!

When my mechanics - picture of my father Ole Harder and team mate Claus Nielsen – (after the final they where VERY dirty) changed the glow plug, all the mud felled down into the engine and then it was really difficult to get the engine running. In the end it was Robert Hansen who took the win with only one engine stop – and when I think about it, we should not have gone through with this race!!

1 Robert Hansen
2 Paw Lindegaard
3 Steffen Culmsee
4 Peter Harder, XB8TQ
5 Lars Alex
6 Morten Nielsen
7 Martin Anthony
8 Max Pedersen
9 Janus Harder, XB8TQ
10 Anders Thue P

After 3 out of 8 rounds it is still my Xray that is in the lead of the 2006 Danish Championship. Next up is the 11th of June where we have round 4, and for the first time visiting the new track just outside Copenhagen – it is a RC stadium ( www.grcc.dk ) just been build for +1 mio$. We cross our fingers and hope for a decent wetter and we can show the performance of the Xray XB8 TQ.
